This September sees the return of the No Mean City Festival , a celebration of Americana music right in the heart of Glasgow! Now in its third year, the No Mean City Festival takes place at variety of venues across the city centre including Nice 'n' Sleazy, Broadcast, Oran Mor and O2 ABC showcasing some of the best new and classic Americana and Roots music acts. This week alone sees Strand of Oaks, The Be Good Tanya's and Eels perform around the city with other stellar acts such as Jim White, Junip and the living legend Kris Kristofferson set to perform later in the month. Music Monday this week celebrates the rebellious hip hop pioneers Public Enemy, without a doubt one of the most influential and important musical acts of all time. This year sees the 25th anniversary of the group originally consisting of MC's Chuck D, Flavor Flav and Professor Griff alongside legendary DJ Terminator X. This year also see's the group inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside contemporaries such as Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, The Beastie Boys and Run DMC. Known for their politically charged lyrics and ferocious activism through their music, Public Enemy released their first album 'Yo! Bumrush the Show' to much critical acclaim, but it wasn't until 1988 and the release of 'It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back' that mainstream success beckoned. Arian Allisani aka Action Bronson is an interesting character. Born in Flushing, Queens to Albanian immigrant parents, Bronson first entered into a career in fine cuisine and became well respected as a fire-flame gourmet chef in New York City, before later deciding to give it a shot at being an MC. Not that he has left his fine cooking roots behind him, far from it, his rhymes are very often punctuated with metaphors and punchlines about food and cooking and he hosts his own online cooking show called 'Action in the Kitchen'. It's clear that Bronson still has a real passion for cooking but his career as an MC has skyrocketed.
