Detroit 67: The Year That Changed Soul

Image
The newest book to arrive in our literary arsenal is Detroit 67: That Year That Changed Soul by Scottish author and journalist Stuart Cosgrove. The author, Stuart Cosgrove's, career encompasses everything from being media editor of NME and the iconic The Face magazine to Head of Programmes at Channel 4. Detroit 67 is the story of Detroit in the year that changed everything. Twelve monthly chapters take you on a turbulent year long journey through the drama and chaos that ripped through the city in 1967. Over a dramatic 12-month period, the Motor City was torn apart by personal, political and inter-racial disputes. It is the story of Motown, the breakup of The Supremes and damaging disputes at the heart of the most successful African-American music label ever. Set against a backdrop of urban riots, escalating war in Vietnam and police corruption, the book weaves its way through a year when soul music came of age, and the underground counterculture flourished. Going Out - Tabac Launch Night

Image
O nce a thriving part of Glasgow City, Bar Ten was designed by Ben Kelly who was responsible for creating the Hacienda Club in Manchester. Since the 80's the bar was one of top spots to be seen in and attracted an eclectic crowd of post work drinkers and pre clubbers wanting something a little bit different from the usual public house crowd. After years of success the bar eventually pulled its last pint and was bought over by the same people who brought you the high end booze bar Chinaskis and the small but perfectly formed Berkeley Suite. Tabac has its grand opening on the 27th of March and aims to deliver an experience like no other bar has been able to manage in Glasgow before. Decked out with Parisian street lights and original decor from when the building used to be a warehouse back in the 70's, Tabac is set to pull out the stops with beers on draught from the likes of Williams Bros. and West beer, sold in a classy schooner form. Not only will customers be t

Brand Focus - Ray-Ban

Image
W ith Summer just around the corner it might be a good idea to start thinking about ways to get your accessory game up to scratch and protect those precious retinas while you're at it. Ray-Ban have been around since 1937 originally providing the iconic Aviator sunglasses to the US Army Air Service to combat altitiude sickness and of course glare from the sun. From then on the Aviators and Wayfarers caught the attention of silver screen icons such as James Dean and Marilyn Monroe and in turn created and made popular one of the most recognisable frames in history. The Clubmaster has seen a wide range of variations since its birth and the newest models include classic tortoise shell frames with bursts of colour located on the rim and inside of the glasses. Adapting to new technologies while maintaining original standards can sometimes prove difficult but the collapsable Wayfarers (shown below in Havana & Crystal Brown) stay true to their OG s

Outfit of the Day - Wood Wood, Carhartt, Ray Ban, Lacoste Live & Adidas

Image
T his weeks selected outfit pays homage to the our personal favourite season. A time where holidays are just around the corner and the excitement of being soaked in foreign sun in a crystal clear water filled pool is starting to distract you from your daily grind.  We have curated an outfit with pieces from Wood Wood , Carhartt & Ray-Ban amongst other Summer inspired items. If you cant imagine yourself by the pool with a strawberry mojito in hand in this outfit then maybe you're a Winter kind of guy. Or maybe you just don't like short sleeve shirts. Starting with the headlining act, the Cy shirt from Wood Wood feels like it's been taken straight from the screens of Miami Vice, and we're quite certain Don Johnson would have this bold number in his wardrobe if given the chance. A surprising entry considering Wood Wood are a Danish based company but a highly welcomed one none the less. Keeping with the theme of holiday garments, these Lacoste Live

Where to Buy Magazines in Glasgow - Fat Buddha Store of Course

Image
--> I f you have lived in Glasgow for long enough you may remember the gargantuan Borders book store which used to occupy a vast 2 storey building in the middle of Buchanan street. It was here that resided one of the most varied book and magazine collections in the city catering for a wealth of niche markets which would attract people from all sorts of sub cultures and with all kinds of interests. Unfortunately the haven closed its doors back in 2009 and left a proverbial hole in the heart of Glasgow's literature obsessed. --> The silver lining to this loss was there was now space in the previously fortified market for independents to step up and fill the void, cue Fat Buddha accepting the challenge and acquiring distribution rights to some of the top publications from around the globe. From familiar fashion magazines such as Vogue to lesser know bi-monthlys including The Architectural Review and 43 Skateboard magazine, we now stock a massive r

How to Wear: Wood Wood Spring / Summer 2015

Image
This week we look at how to wear key pieces from Wood Wood's Spring/Summer 2015 'Class of Now' collection. We have based the look around the beautiful Billie Jacket. The classic Varsity style jacket is constructed from a cotton/nylon blend and has all the subtle detailing one would expect from Wood Wood including tonal piping around the collar and cuffs, large stitched branding on the chest, snap button closure and twin exterior pockets. The Billie Jacket also includes an inside pocket and is fully lined for an extra layer of warmth. Keeping the look simple and fresh we have selected the basic white t-shirt also from Wood Wood. This classic short sleeved crewneck t-shirt keeps the look crisp while stealing none of the focus from the signature jacket. Keeping the look modern the denims chosen take the form of Edwins ED-80 (63 Rainbow Selvage), a slim fitting jean with a tapered leg which sits comfortably on the hip for a relaxed fit. Made from Edwin's

Outfit of the Week - Carhartt, Clarks & Herschel

Image
T his weeks curated outfit comes from three powerhouses each at the forefront of their game. Herschel may have not been on the scene for as long as the rest of the featured companies but the impact they have made is undeniable. Creating robust, timeless products at a reasonable price has meant that Herschel has attracted a wide range of custom from hill walkers and mountain climbers to city dwellers and daily commuters.  Clarks , on the other hand, have had nearly 200 years to evolve and establish themselves as a brand. In this time they've adapted new technology and have created one of the most popular boots available today. Carhartt don't really need an introduction but for those unfamiliar, the workwear conglomerate have been producing outstanding garments since the late 1800's and have only progressed ever since. Starting from the top we have the Heart Polka shirt from Carhartt, a long sleeved white number with an all over polka dot print punctuated with the
