Whats on this week!

Image
This Thursday sees Roots Manuva take the stage at Glasgow's the Arches as he tours his fifth studio album 4everevolution, and I for one am pretty excited. Roots manuva isn't your typical British Rapper as his blend of hip hop with reggae, dub, electronica and even gospel and lyrics about the soul really make his sound stand out.  This may be down to him growing up in East London around the original soundsytem culture and having a father who was a preacher, which he claims not only influences his music but the way in which he lives his life. His 2001 release "Run Come Save Me" gained him a Mercury Music Prize nomination and featured the classic "Witness" (voted the greatest UK hip hop tune of all time by readers of Hip Hop connection.  His influence is said to have opened the doors for future British atalent such as Dizee Rascal and the streets. He will be touring his latest album which is said to be his most accomplished and well crafted to da...

It is with great sadness to announce that Nate Dogg, one of Hip-Hops greats, has sadly died today at the age of 41. His death was confirmed late last night (March 15) in his home town of Long Beach, California. The cause of death is not yet confirmed. The rapper made his debut on Dr. Dre's 1992 debut solo album 'The Chronic' and went on to sign with Death Row Records. His biggest hit was a collabo with fellow West Coast G-Funk pioneer Warren g with the song Regulate, and is one of the most played songs here in the shop ! Fraser

Who York?

Zoo York that's who! Last week I done a wee feature on one of my favourite brands, The Hundreds. This week it's my second favourite brand we sell in Fat Buddha, Zoo York . Beginning in the 70's in the 'Undesputed center of the universe', New York City by a tight crew of progressive minds with creative energy started the name. The original artists built a thriving scene of graffiti, skateboarding, banging tunes and complete originality. By the 80's Zoo York was symbolizing NYCs underground artists, b-boys, skateboarders and all the similar off-shoots. In 1993, OG skateboarders Rodney Smith, Eli Morgan Gessner and Adam Schatz teamed up to found the East Coast's first true skateboarding-inspired lifestyle brand, Zoo York. Created to be dark and gritty, like New York City they created culturally relevant products from skateboarding, hip hop and graffiti scenes. Designed to withstand the city's rugged terrain Zoo York grew into a fully fledged streetwea...

Michael Rapaport

Late night YouTubing resulted in me finding this pretty quirky video by premier LA streetwear giants: The Hundreds . A snippet from The Hundreds magazine that we had in the shop for a limited time features acclaimed actor Michael Rapaport talking about his all time favourite MCs. Rapaport has starred in some of my favourite films such as: Higher Learning, True Romance, Next Friday and Beautiful Girls, and was one of the best recurring characters in the ever-popular tv show Friends.
