Filson Restoration Department - Video

Normally, a fraying hole in the fabric or a broken zipper would be enough to relegate a bag to the landfill, but Seattle-based bag maker Filson believes that this is only a life half lived. For this reason, the brand set up the Filson Restoration Department (FRD) in 2014 to prolong the longevity in the well-loved Filson bags that previous customers bring in. Here, Hanson provides a behind-the-scenes look at the process that the second-hand bags undergo, where imperfections and signs of wear and tear are not only not disguised, but instead are celebrated as markers of the stories through which each bag has lived. After finishing his university education, Chris Hanson wandered into Filson‘s Seattle outpost looking for some direction. His grandfather, who was a devoted consumer, had given him an appreciation for the heritage and craft behind the brand. Soon after, Hanson began working on the retail side of the operation and quickly realized it was actually the crea...

This week's outfit grid is a more dressed and mature look with pieces some of our favourite heritage brands. American imprint Filson have been making finely crafted menswear pieces since 1897 and it shows in the quality of this Short Mile Marker Jacket. Constructed using only the finest materials this jacket has a water-resistant dry waxed cotton shell and is fully lined with feather cloth at the body and twill in the sleeves so it will protect you from the British weather. This iconic American workwear silhouette sits at the hip with several large pockets adorning it. The look is finished off with a beautiful contrasting moleskin collar.  We've used another American menswear pioneer for the shirting with this look as well. This Steersman shirt from Patagonia has a classic check pattern and comes in this great complimentary red/brown colourway. The cotton on this shirt is super light; ideal for the summer weather. For bottoms we have gone with Edwin's si...

This week's look is a smarter take on streetwear with in-store favourites from ASICS , Carhartt WIP , Edwin , Filson and Happy Socks . Let's start this week's look by talking about those kicks from ASICS ; the freshly dropped Gel-Respector from their "Japanese Garden" pack. The venerated silhouette is outfitted with plush suede and a colourway we loved so much we based an entire outfit around it. Running with the pink we have added the Terry Tee from Edwin which is made from a great thick terry cloth, perfect for spring. For bottoms we have gone for Carhartt WIP 's Skill Pant which is 5 pocket style with a regular fit for a more contemporary look, shown here in complimentary grey. We have gone for a streetwear classic and added a coach jacket to the look. The coach jacket selected is from Edwin   and is understated with only subtle branding to the chest keeping the look fresh and modern. As we're going for a more dressed take on streetw...

Finish January with this week's sleek look consisting of classic cuts, understated detail and fine craftsmanship. This week's look manages to be both contemporary yet classic and combines that most overused of oxymorons ... smart casual. Starting off the look is the beautiful Short Cruiser Jacket from Filson . A beautiful cut sees the jacket sit above the hips while the classic angles look great layered over a shirt or t-shirt. To smarten up the look we have layered the jacket over Wood Wood 's Timothy Logo Shirt which is a traditional oxford style shirt mixed up with Wood Wood 's logo throughout. Keeping the look classic we have selected possibly one of our most popular denims Edwin's ED-55 in Rainbow Selvedge. The cut is a relaxed tapered fit with sits comfortably on the hip and compliments the shorter length of the jacket. Adding a bit of casualness to the look is the Premier Beanie Hat from Obey in burnt orange and Nike SB's iconic Janoski s...
