Mega Yacht 'Guilty' Designed By Jeff Koons

Image
If your ever thinking of sailing the high sea's, and had the money to do it in style, then this new mega yacht designed by Italian yacht designer Ivana Porfiri and Jeff Koons looks just the way to do it. Greek Cypriot industrialist and art collector Dakis Joannou recently commissioned the yacht. A floating piece of art, 'Guilty' measures in at 115 feet long and ranks as Koons’ largest project to date. Inspired by British naval camouflage from World War I, the yacht’s exterior features bold geometric designs that include alternating yellow rhombuses, pink triangles and blue polygons. The yacht’s interior walls and ceilings are all white, with extremely large windows to maximize natural lighting. Highlighting the space, a central staircase turns from pinkish violet to galactic blue and finally warm yellow. The main cabin encompasses the top deck, with 180-degree views and the word “Feelings” hanging in neon lights above the bed, the master bedroom als...

KAWS at PAFA Exhibition

One of our favourite artists here at Fat Buddha Store has to be Kaws . Living Proof magazine recently got an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After a massive 30-foot Companion sat in Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station for a few months, KAWS returns to the city for a special exhibition at the legendary PAFA. The exhibition features both indoor and outdoor components, with a brand new nine-foot sculpture sitting above the front entrance of the Academy’s Historic Landmark Building. The indoor component of “KAWS @ PAFA” will feature over 60 KAWS paintings and sculptures, some of them newly created for this exhibition in the galleries of the Historic Landmark Building. The “KAWS @ PAFA” exhibition will be on view from October 12 through January 5, 2014 while the sculpture on the front facade will remain until August 2014. If your in Philadelphia or on your travels you should go check this out!

New Banksy in LA - Better Out Than In

Image
A new piece of work by British street artist Banksy has appeared in Los Angeles. Titled Better Out Than In , the piece uses the surrounding environment to depict a young graffiti artist throwing up flowers. The English artist has remained rather quiet since his last piece right before London’s Olympics shown below. The piece seems to allude to an upcoming series or show of the same name, judging by the text via his website . Details are few at the moment but we’re sure you'll hear all about it soon enough

Pharell Williams and Daniel Arsham Collaboration

Image
Shown above is the first glimpse of the collaboration between Pharrell Williams and artist Daniel Arsham . Known for his beautiful sculptural work, Arsham re-created the Casio MT-500 keyboard in collaboration with Pharrell. The keyboard was the first instrument that Pharrell ever made music with. Arsham gave it his signature look, adding signs of use and beautiful details to it. It looks like the keyboard was created in several colors.   The exhibition opens on September 11th at the Standard hotel in East Village New York, but no one knows if the work will be for sale yet.

New York Underbelly Project

Image
Deep in the belly of New York ’s subway system, a beautiful untouched station resides that has been forgotten for years with only a limited few knowing of its existence. Stunning decoration with tall tiled arches, brass fixtures and skylights run across the entire curve of the station, almost a miniature imitation of Grand Central Station.  The station was opened in 1904, with the hope of making it the crowning glory of the New York subway system in elegant architecture and a place for commemorative plaques to honour the work that had resulted in such a successful underground mass transit system. It was to be the original southern terminus of the first ‘Manhattan Main Line, however the station was closed and boarded up in 1945. The gem of the underground began gathering dust, forgotten by the general public, as passengers were forced off at the Brooklyn Bridge Stop before the train continued on to the terminus to make its turnaround. The reason ...

Converse - Shoes Are Boring, Wear Sneakers

Image
One of our favourite brands here at Fat Buddha Store and one of the most iconic brands of the 20th century, till present day has to be Converse . The good folks at the brand commissioned renowned Glasgow based Graffiti artist Smug to paint an ad for the brand, using the Converse Jack Purcell slogan "Shoes are boring, wear sneakers".  Smug is known for specialising in characters and photo-realistic graffiti, and around Glasgow you see lots of his work scattered around the city.  Since discovering graffiti 15 years ago Smug's work quickly grew into a perfectionist's obsession with heavy line work, letters and characters which has developed into a more photo-realistic style that has been exhibited widely.  Smug's paintings are meticulously rendered works which draw upon an eclectic range of influences, often making uncomfortable subjects into stunning pieces on canvas and in industrial and abandoned settings. You can check out some pics of the piece b...

Obey Screen

Image
While catching up with the characters from Obey during the week we were pleased to be treated to an amazing work of art from the Obey brand itself. Housed in this tough wooden frame is an original screen featuring a classic Obey graphic, part of a small selection of screens given to a handful of stores, this screen will make an excellent addition to the walls here at Fat Buddha. The artwork is a great insight into how these works are made and the time and effort that has gone into creating these one off designs. To get your hands on some of these Obey graphics we have a big range of Obey over on our website hosting many designs similar to our screen. Keep up to date with all the shop activity and new products on arrival via our Facebook , Twitter and Instagram : @Fatbuddhastore or hashtag #fatbuddhastore to get involved.
