It was here that resided one of the most varied book and magazine collections in the city catering for a wealth of niche markets which would attract people from all sorts of sub cultures and with all kinds of interests. Unfortunately the haven closed its doors back in 2009 and left a proverbial hole in the heart of Glasgow's literature obsessed. --> The silver lining to this loss was there was now space in the previously fortified market for independents to step up and fill the void, cue Fat Buddha accepting the challenge and acquiring distribution rights to some of the top publications from around the globe. One of our favourite books here at Fat Buddha Store has to be Upper Playgrounds - 10 Years Of T-Shirt Graphics . The book shows, well, exactly what the title says the last ten years of t-shirt graphics by San Fransisco’s finest street culture shop & clothing line, Upper Playground. If you’re a fan of the latest street art, t shirts or just cool stuff, then this book is definitely for you. The affiliated gallery, Fifty24SF, shows works by leading urban artists, some of whom are the world’s most provocative. The works featured in this 10 year anniversary edition are cutting edge to say the least. While catching up with the characters from Obey during the week we were pleased to be treated to an amazing work of art from the Obey brand itself. Housed in this tough wooden frame is an original screen featuring a classic Obey graphic, part of a small selection of screens given to a handful of stores, this screen will make an excellent addition to the walls here at Fat Buddha. The artwork is a great insight into how these works are made and the time and effort that has gone into creating these one off designs.    One of the newest products to drop through the doors here at Fat Buddha are Field Notes. These uniquely designed range of notebooks are the brainchild of Portland-based graphic designer Aaron Draplin . The concept for Field Notes was born out of Draplins love and affection for American farmers notebooks which he had begun collecting and archiving in 1993 as he travelled over the US. After years of collecting these notebooks and years of design work for other companies, including Nike, Patagonia and Burton snowboards among others, Draplin decided to take his passion to another level. In 2008, he designed and produced a small range of notebooks in the style of the ones he had collected for years and handed them out among his circle of friends, the rest as they say is history.   Now in 2012, Field Notes is a successful business producing many styles, sizes and colours of notebooks, some of which are now available instore.
