Banksy - Better Out Than In

Image
After being in New York City for the last month, British street artist Banksy has finished of his "Better Out Than in" residency with an inflatable throw-up piece on the Long Island Expressway in Queens. The last piece from "Better Out Than In" sits above other tags in a used car lot. For his last piece, the English artist included an audio guide poking fun at himself and his project along with inspirational albeit sentimental words. In addition, Banksy also released his official New York residency T-shirt, although you’ll have to “"ake the jpeg to a copy store and make it yourself". You can check out some pics below. You can check out more about the pics from above and get a look at all of Banksy's work from the 'Better Out Than In " exhibition here .

Pharell Williams and Daniel Arsham Collaboration

Image
Shown above is the first glimpse of the collaboration between Pharrell Williams and artist Daniel Arsham . Known for his beautiful sculptural work, Arsham re-created the Casio MT-500 keyboard in collaboration with Pharrell. The keyboard was the first instrument that Pharrell ever made music with. Arsham gave it his signature look, adding signs of use and beautiful details to it. It looks like the keyboard was created in several colors.   The exhibition opens on September 11th at the Standard hotel in East Village New York, but no one knows if the work will be for sale yet.

New York Underbelly Project

Image
Deep in the belly of New York ’s subway system, a beautiful untouched station resides that has been forgotten for years with only a limited few knowing of its existence. Stunning decoration with tall tiled arches, brass fixtures and skylights run across the entire curve of the station, almost a miniature imitation of Grand Central Station.  The station was opened in 1904, with the hope of making it the crowning glory of the New York subway system in elegant architecture and a place for commemorative plaques to honour the work that had resulted in such a successful underground mass transit system. It was to be the original southern terminus of the first ‘Manhattan Main Line, however the station was closed and boarded up in 1945. The gem of the underground began gathering dust, forgotten by the general public, as passengers were forced off at the Brooklyn Bridge Stop before the train continued on to the terminus to make its turnaround. The reason ...

Kaws - "Ohhh..." Exhibition at KaiKai Kiki Gallery

Image
One of our favourite artists here at Fat Buddha Store is New York City's Kaws . We posted recently about his 16 foot Companion sculpture arriving at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station to be put on show. His new exhibition has opened at the KaiKai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo. The Brooklyn artist presents an entire new body of canvas work, including many different sized paintings. His trademark characters and styles are mixed in new ways, resulting in an exciting new body of work, while staying true to what he is best known for. You can check out some pics below. The show will continue to run until the 29th May and includes all of the artwork shown above. We have very limited stock of Medicom's Kaw's Bus Stop 1 and Kaw's Bus Stop 2 still available here at Fat Buddha Store alongside more from our great range of Vinyl toys . You can check them out here.

Kaws Companion arrives at 30th Street Station In Philadelphia

Image
One of our favourite artists here at Fat Buddha Store has to be New York City based Kaws . He began his career as a graffiti artist growing up in Jersey City, New Jersey. Later moving to New York City in the 1990s. KAWS started subverting imagery on billboards, bus shelters and phone booth advertisements. These reworked advertisements were at first left alone, lasting for up to several months, but as KAWS’ popularity skyrocketed, the ads became increasingly sought after. Moving on some years he has collaborated with some of the best brands around, such as Nike , Vans Comme Des Garcon, Medicom , Original Fake and many more and produced some of the most recognisable characters and pieces of art. In addition to New York, KAWS has done work in Paris, London, Berlin , Tokyo and all around the globe. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), in collaboration with Amtrak, has arranged for Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station to be the next location to host KAWS...

OBEY x Keith Haring Eyes

Image
Available online by the end of the week we have the latest drop from OBEY, including some of the collab pieces with the Keith Haring foundation. Keith Haring, who was a massive influence on OBEY founder Shepard Fairey, was a contemporary artist based in New York in the 70's and 80's. In the 80's his art took him to a level of international fame and he was then also was known as an activist and public figure. His work was a strong example of early downtown New York graffiti subculture and devoted much of his time to public works. In 1988 he was diagnosed with the HIV virus and established the Keith Haring foundation in 1989 to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organisations and childrens programmes. In 1990 he sadly passed away but his legacy lives on in his art and his foundation. The Keith Haring Eyes sweat and tee from OBEY are a collaboration with the foundation using one of Haring's most popular images.

ONLY NY Lives at Fat Buddha

Image
ONLY NY has got to be one of our very favourite up and coming brands and over the last couple of years they really have come in to their own as a top streetwear brand.  The brand that hails from New York City boast that all of their garments are made exclusively in the USA with many designs coming from NY based artist Micah, who is also a co founder of the brand. The latest collection does not disappoint with some real simple classic looking block print tees and sweats as well as a collection of headwear that will make your eyes water. The 5 panels are a real stand out such as the Camper which features leather logo detail on the front panel as well as a suede skip. The logo 5 panel is another belter which features some real vibrant colourations on each panel. This hat is cleary influenced by the hats originally worn by New York couriers.  Check out the full range of ONLY NY here .
