Going Out - On The Quiet with The Revenge & Ali Ooft at Max's La Cheetah

Image
New club night On The Quiet makes it's debut tonight (Saturday 15th Feb) at Max's La Cheetah Club on Queens St in Glasgow, and brings along The Revenge (Roar Groove) and Ali Ooft (Foto Recordings) to kick things off alongside residents Craig Moog and Kev Stevens. As one half of the 6th Borough Project, Graeme Clark aka The Revenge is a producer who understands the past but embraces the future. The analogue approach, forward thinking productions and his versatility as a DJ, has ensured him a place as one of the leading names in House music in recent years. The main force behind OOFT Music is Ali Herron. Originally cutting his production chops with tracky edits and some early OOFT! remixes alongside The Revenge, Ali has been steadily building up his own studio over the last 5 years, putting out a series of deep, pitched-down house tracks on labels such as Instruments of Rapture, PPF, Delusions of Grandeur, Rememory,Wolf Music and his own Foto Recordings label...

Going Out - Optimo "Dark Was The Night" Release Party At The Sub Club

Image
To celebrate the release of Optimo's great new "Dark Was The Night" mix album the duo are returning to the Sub Club tonight (Friday 31st Jan) for their first residency date of 2014. Though Jonnie Wilkes and Keith McIvor have done scores of commercial and free mixes down the years, Dark Was The Night rivals any of their previous selections in terms of diversity. Across 21 tracks, the techno of Terrence Dixon and Silent Servant mingles with Scottish '70s punk band The Freeze, New York minimal wavers Jeff & Jayne Hudson, Kode9 & Space Ape's new-school dub and experimental cuts from the likes of Nurse With Wound, Hieroglyphic Being and Carter Tutti. The title of the mix is a nod to Blind Willie Johnson, whose song "Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground" was one of the 27 pieces of music taken on the Voyager space flight in 1977 (known collectively as the Voyager Golden Records). Despite this, Johnson died penniless of malaria ...

Going Out - Dixon Avenue Basement Jams at The Sub Club

Image
One of our favourite labels and one of the best labels around right now has to be Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. It's great to see the guy's behind it Kenny and Dan take to Subculture at Glasgow's Sub Club tomorrow night (Saturday 25th Jan) for what looks set to be an outstanding night of music. Based out of Glasgow, the motto for the labels is “real rockin’ raw shit from the street for the clubs”, and it sums up the imprint to date perfectly. Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, quite frankly, release weird, non standard machine music that spits and splurts, blurts and bleats all kinds of alien patterns, hooks and melodies into your ears and has done with every single one of its EP's so far. Despite belying any one easy genre classification, never is the music too weird, alien or off the wall to not be hugely likeable – there is often a moment of serene synth calm, a catchy vocal clip or soulful detroit reflection hidden within the rawness of EPs from Marquis Ha...
