English electronic music duo and all-around force of nature in the dance scene, Basement Jaxx, made a welcome return this weekend, with the leak of their new track 'What A Difference Your Love Makes', a precursor to a forthcoming EP, slated for September. Consisting of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, Basement Jaxx had been making waves in the underground house scene all through the early and mid 90's with their regular club nights in Brixton which featured guests such as DJ Sneak and Daft Punk. In 1999, the duo released their first full length album titled 'Remedy' which featured the widely popular singles 'Red Alert' and 'Rendez-Vu'. The word on everybody's lips right now has to be 'Harlem Shake' but how many people know the artist behind the viral hit. Baauer, real name Harry Rodrigues, is a 23 year old producer with an upbringing that spans several countries and cultures. Born in Philadelphia but spending his early life in Germany and London before moving to Connecticut at the age of 13 and eventually moving off to New York for college at 17. Citing his early influences as classic rock and jazz, before becoming increasingly interested in hip hop as a teen with the likes of MF Doom, Dr Octagon, Flying Lotus and J Dilla among his favourite acts and set his heart on becoming a DJ after accidentally coming across the DMC championships. Baauer settled in Brooklyn and 2009 and has been steadily producing since then, slowly helping to mould the trap sound that has becoming massive over the past year or two. World Famous Belgian dance duo 2manydjs are set to invade Glasgow next month. The duo are playing an exclusive dj set at The Arches in Glasgow on Saturday 17th November which is sure to be a sellout. Stephen and David Dewaele have been producing and remixing at the forefront of dance music for the better part of two decades. As part of alternative rock/electronic band Soulwax, the brothers, alongside Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer, were first noticed after the release of their second album 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' in 1998. Since then, Soulwax have released four more albums and the Dewaele brothers have worked on various solo projects such as The Flying Dewaele Brothers and 2manydjs.   The duo has released a plethora of both official and unofficial remixes for artists as diverse as Robbie Williams, DJ Shadow, Gossip, LCD Soundsystem and Daft Punk, to name a few. Last week Glasgow label and club night Numbers dropped their latest mix courtesy of original member Spencer. The mix showcases the best the label has to offer, blending the old with the new and everything inbetween. The mix is a real favourite and getting rinsed in store at the moment, it's good to see the Glasgow based label doing so well and they aren't looking to slow down any time soon.
