Music Monday - Earl Sweatshirt!

Image
It has finally arrived, the long awaited debut from Odd Future standout and quite possibly one of the most exciting young rappers in the game today, Earl Sweatshirt's Doris is out now! Earl Sweatshirt has long been marked out as possibly the best that Odd Future has to offer for a while now, despite having never released an actual full length project but has featured heavily on group projects and on releases from his Golf Wang family. Featuring Tyler, The Creator, Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, Mac Miller and even Wu- Tang abbot RZA, the 15 track album offers up a plethora of styles and flows and includes singles 'Hive' and 'Whoa'. We think this could be one of the best albums of the year, but what do you think?

Music Monday - Tyler, The Creator

Image
Hip Hop's rebel without a cause, Tyler, The Creator, let loose his new album 'Wolf' this past week on the Odd Future soundcloud, giving all his fans a listen before it officially drops tomorrow. Tyler really needs no explanation, if you have listened to any popular music over the past year, its likely that you've heard him or his Odd Future compadres in some form. First gaining some shine at the end of 2009/start of 2010, Tyler and his Odd Future crew turned the hip hop world on its head for while, polarising opinion with their cartoonish, braggadocious, hipster rap, an amalgamation of their collective upbringings spending their younger days hanging in LA's Rosewood area, skating, smoking and listening to hip hop. Tylers first album 'Bastard' in 2009 was self released but still managed to make it onto Pitchfork's list of the best albums of the year. His sophhomore effort, and his first official release 'Goblin' in 2011 was a ma...

Music Monday - Captain Murphy

Image
A few weeks ago Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt and Brainfeeder honcho Flying Lotus dropped a track named "Between Friends" for Adult Swim, alongside them appeared mysterious rapper Captain Murphy with a lyrical style that sounded heavily influenced by MF DOOM/Madvillain. Since then Captain Murphy has released a couple more tracks including a remix of Hud Mo and Lunice's TNGHT project's Bugg'n but still no clue as to who the mysterious rapper is. There are theories that it is Tyler The Creator with his voice pitched, as this sounds like exactly something he would do and has done in the past. However according to the Captain Murphy account it is not Tyler the Creator, but he is very thankful for all the free publicity he is getting from him. The other theory is that it's the rapping moniker for Flying Lotus himself, with the lyrics ghost written by Earl Sweatshirt. This could also be plausible as Fly Lo is known as a producer with a sense of humour...
