  Glasgows very own Offbeat have played host to some of the best musical talent there is to offer and tonight is no exception. Having already been praised in write ups from The Guardian , this night has been difficult to keep a secret as the one and only DJ Funk, master of the booty, has came to grace the booth at La Cheetah for a single night of mayhem. DJ Funk tearing is up in Sub Club @ Numbers 07 Treating us to a whirlwind of ghettotech, techno, house, all things Chicago and any other powerful beats that make you wana shake it, DJ Funk is not one to miss. Known for his on stage antics and talent for getting the crowd hyped up, Glasgow seems like the perfect home for tonights guest of honour. An intimate venue, La Cheetah is known for holding some of the wildest and busiest nights in Glasgow, add this to the combination of DJ Funk and the Glaswegian crowd make this either a match made in heaven, or perhaps hell... Tonight see's the return of Wolf Music to The Berkeley Suite as the Wolf Music bosses, Matt and Stu, once again set out to turn the Glasgow venue into a den of sweat and awesome house music. After giving the world the likes of Medlar, Greymatter and Bicep, Wolf Music and putting down a storming set at The Berkeley Suite last year, the demand for Matt and Stu has went through the roof, with them playing to packed dancefloors all across Europe. On their return to Glasgow, they've brought along special guest KRL, who, in his first time in Glasgow, is keen to match the boys energy with his hip hop, soul and disco inspired set. If you're out and about in Glasgow tonight, this is sure to be a great night!!

The good folks over at NPR have just released on us a first listen to one of the most interesting musical collaborations of the year, the new album 'Wise Up Ghost' from Elvis Costello and The Roots! After a meeting with hip hop's most exciting live band as a guest on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon', Elvis Costello began recording with The Roots in a series of experimental sessions which eventually spanned a year. The sound of the album has already drawn comparisons to the soulful and funky sounds of early Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes but with added hip hop basslines and the literary brilliance of Mr Costello weaving itself amongst the cinematic sounds. Collaborations of this nature often force the very best out of musicians and songwriters, with both coming from very different musical backgrounds and attempting to create a cohesive collaborative project, in this case it works beautifully! English electronic music duo and all-around force of nature in the dance scene, Basement Jaxx, made a welcome return this weekend, with the leak of their new track 'What A Difference Your Love Makes', a precursor to a forthcoming EP, slated for September. Consisting of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, Basement Jaxx had been making waves in the underground house scene all through the early and mid 90's with their regular club nights in Brixton which featured guests such as DJ Sneak and Daft Punk. In 1999, the duo released their first full length album titled 'Remedy' which featured the widely popular singles 'Red Alert' and 'Rendez-Vu'. Their second full length 'Rooty', released in 2001, led to the groups first international hit with the single 'Where's Your Head At?', in part due to its inclusion on the Tomb Raider soundtrack.   Since the early 80's and late 90's Dance Mania Records were prominent in the house and acid house scene, in later years they defined the sound of Ghetto house and brought it to the club scene for all to jack to by adding as they say "even lower and dirty 808s and 909s". The label put out dance-floor weapons from Lil Louis to Pierre's Fantasy Club (PF), rhythms from legends like Traxmen, DJ Funk, and Tyree Cooper with many in between.   Bought over in 2005 by DJ Funk the label took a brief hiatus for 15 years with next to no releases bar DJ Funks (#1001). There has been no work from the record label in recent years until now, and to mark and celebrate the return of the renowned label Vin Sol has treated us to a mix of the "Dark Side" of Dance Mania. Featuring old school classics from Tyree, DJ Funk and Houz Mon along with a new track being given away by Vin Sol, his new "Frequency (Factory Style)"which you can download from here . ...
