Going Out - Streetrave & The Arches present Danny Tenaglia

Image
STREETrave & The Arches are very proud to present a legend. After an 18 year chase they have finally managed to secure their holy grail. Not played in Scotland for over 12 years.....Never played for STREETrave or Colours and never played at Scotlands No. 1 venue The Arches......However tonight (Friday 16th August )this will all change...... They bring to Glasgow the one and only Danny Tenaglia. Danny Tenaglia's love affair with music, and the world's subsequent romance with him, is one of the critical veins in the body of dance music. He is every dancer's secret discovery; a random purchase at the record store, a reluctant night out that unexpectedly turned magic. Explosive success came not behind a major label release, or a world tour, or a radio hit remix: It happened when enough people had the private Tenaglia experience for themselves. As in every year since his DJ odyssey began, all across the globe, from Acapulco to Tokyo, more people ex...

Image
OM MY DAYS!!! The Arches present the return of the ultimate terror experience in the form of Alien War. The action packed Alien War is back commemorating 20 years since it first opened at the Arches in 1992. Alien War is described as a "Total Reality" as those taking part make their way through the the specially designed set inspired by Alien set designer HR Giger. The group of explorers taking part will travel through the the dark, claustrophobic underground depths of the Arches tunnels discovering unusual artifacts and strange hieroglyphics along the way. Not too mention the terrifying scares that they will encounter as they are pursued by the Alien. Alien Wars is running from Friday 14th  September to Sunday 14th April and is not to be missed if you are looking to scare yourself shitless and prepared to do a lot of running. With a whole new set design and plenty of new scares Alien Wars is just as exciting for previous victims too. Info on tickets and times here ...

Music Monday - Asap Rocky

Image
This Saturday ASA P Rocky will be bringing his live show to Glasgow for the first time, when he plays The Arches. The Harlem born and raised rapper/video director has been surfing a huge wave of success since the release of the mixtape LiveLoveAsap in 2011 and has really brought something new to the hip hop table. ASAP Rocky and his crew ASAP Mob are unlike any rappers you have seen before, he has a flow and speed that sounds straight out of L.A while the beats they make and use are from producers you would not normally associate with this genre, resulting in a sound that is unique and fresh in a scene that has been needing a change. Add to this you have the whole crew's passion for male fashion and grooming, they all like to dress in the latest catwalk collections such as Rick Owens and Comme des garcons. He wants to be more than just another rapper, he wants to be a fashion icon, mixing streetwear with fashion to create a look on a rapper we have never seen before. His n...

Nightwalk - Glasgow's Independent Fashion Showcaase

Image
Last night saw the Arches played host to Glasgow's underground fashion scene with Nightwalk SS2012. Nightwalk is a bi annual event that showcases the cream of Glasgow's independent fashion, combining fashion from up and coming Scottish designers with electronic music, art, photography and performance. The event which not only acts as a platform for Glaswegian creatives to showcase their latest designs, artwork and overall talent. But also supports the local charity St. Margarets Hospice, meaning all the money raised goes to a good cause. This really is the place to discover Scotland's up and coming fashion designers and models as well as the best in Scotland's fashion labels such as Obscure Couture , Isolated Heroes , Dawntroversial Shoes and much much more. Sadly we could not make it down but from what we have heard last night's event was a huge success and we are very excited for the next one! Keep up to date with Fat Buddha Store on Facebook a...

Music Monday

Image
This Friday sees the return of everybody's favourite party starters 2many DJ's at the Arches in Glasgow.  And we have a pair of tickets to giveaway!  2many DJ's is a music project from Belgian brothers David and Stephen Dewaele who also make up famous rock/electronic band Soulwax. 2many DJ's started as a side project for the brothers when they were touring with Soulwax as they got sick of the music being played in the clubs in each town they toured and so decided they could do better themselves.  They have went on to release several studio albums as well as having a documentary film made about them. Renowned for their remixes expect to catch a show featuring pretty much every music genre about from Beethoven to Rolling Stones.  Even going as far as remixing one of their own Soulwax albums. As well as this be prepared to be in awe of the live visuals used as they blow everyone's mind with different mash ups of favourite songs. The duo are pretty damn pop...

Music Monday

Image
On Sunday night a couple of us from the store headed out to the Arches to catch  SBTRKT' s sold out show on their live UK tour.  SBTRKT is a UK based producer/DJ who's self titled album was a real favourite last year.  When performing live as SBTRKT he is joined by singer/producer/collaborator/ band mate Sampha . The elusive producer who went for a good while without anyone finding out who he was due to his SBTRKT moniker and the fact that he always wears special made tribal masks to cover his face.  The reason for this being that he feels he would rather use anonyimity to let the music do the talking rather than himself as a person. The live show consists of them playing a whole host of different instruments from acoustic drums, drum pads, sequencers, keyboards and live singing.    I caught the show in Manchesterlast year just as his debut album was released so it was nice to see how their live show had progressed.  It ...

Whats on this week!

Image
This Thursday sees Roots Manuva take the stage at Glasgow's the Arches as he tours his fifth studio album 4everevolution, and I for one am pretty excited. Roots manuva isn't your typical British Rapper as his blend of hip hop with reggae, dub, electronica and even gospel and lyrics about the soul really make his sound stand out.  This may be down to him growing up in East London around the original soundsytem culture and having a father who was a preacher, which he claims not only influences his music but the way in which he lives his life. His 2001 release "Run Come Save Me" gained him a Mercury Music Prize nomination and featured the classic "Witness" (voted the greatest UK hip hop tune of all time by readers of Hip Hop connection.  His influence is said to have opened the doors for future British atalent such as Dizee Rascal and the streets. He will be touring his latest album which is said to be his most accomplished and well crafted to da...
