Spray Bike - Bike Spray

Image
Spray Bike  is a collaboration between three different companies: Brick Lane Bikes – a major international manufacturer, retailer and wholesaler in the bike industry, based in London Vicious Cycles Athens – an urban bike workshop in the centre of Athens, Greece Cosmos Lac – a high-tech paint manufacturer based in Greece Spray Bike was created out of frustration with existing products. If you’re not an experienced pro, it’s so difficult to use metal or car spray paint on bikes. It drips and dribbles and is extremely hard to control. And professional electrostatic or powder coating can get super expensive. At VCA, while trying to repair a damaged frame using a standard RAL spray, they were so disappointed with the results that they phoned up the manufacturer, which happened to be Cosmos Lac. “Well what do you want the paint to do?” was the reply. After 2 years of development, Spray Bike was the answer. VCA and Cosmos Lac sent samples over to Brick Lane Bi...

Montana UV-Effect Transparent Spray Paint - How to Use it, a quick guide

Image
Montana UV-EFFECT is a transparent effect paint that is only visible under direct UV light. Able to be sprayed on nearly any substrate, the colourless and semi-gloss paint is not visible in sunlight rather illuminates when exposed to UV light with a glowing, blue-purple colour. Ideal for indoor use, the luminous spray can be a great tool not just for making art or art happenings, but also in practical contexts such as Guerilla Marketing, night clubs, venue and property marking. The Montana UV effect Spray can be applied to numerous substrates such as coated and uncoated screens, masonry, wood, glass and more. The UV light effect becomes more prevalent, the more coats are applied particularly when applied with a stencil. Visibility: Due to the UV EFFECT’s semi-gloss finish, the UV EFFECT spray can be slightly visible if painted on a matt substrate. The application of the Montana GLOSS Varnish can be used to create an all over gloss finish which discretely hides the UV ...

Converse - Shoes Are Boring, Wear Sneakers

Image
One of our favourite brands here at Fat Buddha Store and one of the most iconic brands of the 20th century, till present day has to be Converse . The good folks at the brand commissioned renowned Glasgow based Graffiti artist Smug to paint an ad for the brand, using the Converse Jack Purcell slogan "Shoes are boring, wear sneakers".  Smug is known for specialising in characters and photo-realistic graffiti, and around Glasgow you see lots of his work scattered around the city.  Since discovering graffiti 15 years ago Smug's work quickly grew into a perfectionist's obsession with heavy line work, letters and characters which has developed into a more photo-realistic style that has been exhibited widely.  Smug's paintings are meticulously rendered works which draw upon an eclectic range of influences, often making uncomfortable subjects into stunning pieces on canvas and in industrial and abandoned settings. You can check out some pics of the piece b...

OBEY x Keith Haring Eyes

Image
Available online by the end of the week we have the latest drop from OBEY, including some of the collab pieces with the Keith Haring foundation. Keith Haring, who was a massive influence on OBEY founder Shepard Fairey, was a contemporary artist based in New York in the 70's and 80's. In the 80's his art took him to a level of international fame and he was then also was known as an activist and public figure. His work was a strong example of early downtown New York graffiti subculture and devoted much of his time to public works. In 1988 he was diagnosed with the HIV virus and established the Keith Haring foundation in 1989 to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organisations and childrens programmes. In 1990 he sadly passed away but his legacy lives on in his art and his foundation. The Keith Haring Eyes sweat and tee from OBEY are a collaboration with the foundation using one of Haring's most popular images.

Behind the Scenes

Image
When I started working in Fat Buddha Store a few years ago now I knew nothing about spray paints or painting. Now, while I still don't paint myself, I do notice it a lot more and find myself fascinated by it. Glasgow is smothered in great (and some not so great) pieces. As some of you know, when I am not working in Fat Buddha I am out taking photos. Last week one of my photo shoots happened to be in Graffiti hot spot, St Peter's Seminary. So I took the time out while the models where getting make up done to photograph a few of my favourite pieces. I am pretty sure most of the painters get their paint from us too but shhh... This one is by far my favourite...  If you are interested in St Peter's please check out the Hidden Scotland page here and also here is a wee creepy video. It looks a little different now because some more of it has collapsed but you will get the gist. PS... This place is very freaky at night. Check out my website if you are old eno...
