New York Underbelly Project

Image
Deep in the belly of New York ’s subway system, a beautiful untouched station resides that has been forgotten for years with only a limited few knowing of its existence. Stunning decoration with tall tiled arches, brass fixtures and skylights run across the entire curve of the station, almost a miniature imitation of Grand Central Station.  The station was opened in 1904, with the hope of making it the crowning glory of the New York subway system in elegant architecture and a place for commemorative plaques to honour the work that had resulted in such a successful underground mass transit system. It was to be the original southern terminus of the first ‘Manhattan Main Line, however the station was closed and boarded up in 1945. The gem of the underground began gathering dust, forgotten by the general public, as passengers were forced off at the Brooklyn Bridge Stop before the train continued on to the terminus to make its turnaround. The reason ...

The Worlds Largest Lego Star Wars X Wing Fighter Unveiled in NYC

Image
LEGO's largest ever model was revealed in New York City’s Times Square yesterday in the shape of the Star Wars X-Wing Fighter. It is the world’s largest LEGO model coming in at 42x the size of the #9493 Star Wars set currently available. The model was constructed in LEGO’s model shop in Kladno, Czech Republic and measures 11 x 43 feet with a wingspan of 44 feet. The 1:1 scale model uses over five million bricks and weighs in at over 45,000 pounds. An international team of builders, engineers, designers, mechanics and logistics experts spent over a year planning and constructing the model from the same bricks enjoyed by people all over the world. You can check out some pics below. The X-wing will in due course appear at the company's LEGOLAND Resort in Carlsbad, California (after being certified as strong enough under the state's seismic requirements), and is being displayed in Times Square to publicize the forthcoming "Yoda Chronicles...

Music Monday - DJ Premier

Image
If you don't know the name DJ Premier, then there may be something wrong with you! To celebrate Premier's 47th birthday which passed last week, this Music Monday is dedicated to looking back on the career of one of hip hops greatest producers. DJ Premier basically crafted the sound of 90's east coast hip hop singlehandedly with his 'boom-bap' style production perfectly suited to the hard, gritty lyricists populating New York at the time. In 1989, a Boston MC by the name of Guru reached out to Houston native DJ Premier, then known as Waxmaster C, after splitting with his DJ. Preemo sent him a beat tape which Guru loved and Gangstarr, as we all know and love them, was born. Throughout the 90's Gangstarr released classic albums such as Moment Of Truth, Hard To Earn and Daily Operation cementing themselves as one of the greatest groups in hip hop history.   All through the 90's, DJ Premier was also producing for the cream of the cr...

Music Mondays - Action Bronson!

Image
Arian Allisani aka Action Bronson is an interesting character. Born in Flushing, Queens to Albanian immigrant parents, Bronson first entered into a career in fine cuisine and became well respected as a fire-flame gourmet chef in New York City, before later deciding to give it a shot at being an MC. Not that he has left his fine cooking roots behind him, far from it, his rhymes are very often punctuated with metaphors and punchlines about food and cooking and he hosts his own online cooking show called 'Action in the Kitchen'. It's clear that Bronson still has a real passion for cooking but his career as an MC has skyrocketed. Since his debut album 'Dr Lecter' was released in 2011, Bronson has been on a steady rise to the top, with co-signs from some of the biggest names in hip hop, collaborations with The Alchemist, Party Supplies, Kool G Rap and Statik Selektah amongst others. With the release of the Party Supplies assisted mixtape 'Blue Chi...

Nike - Eric Haze

Image
Nike 's most recent collaboration with Eric Haze has just dropped instore, and is looking right on the money. Eric Haze ’s art of graffiti was appreciated underground on the streets. By the early 90s Haze started his own line of clothing and accessories as his popularity continued to grow in New York, LA, and in Japan. Haze also worked with a host of major companies for logo and image design. In the summer of 2003, Nike released their first collaborative project, which was the Nike Dunk in limited numbers in the UK, NY, LA, and Japan. Still today, nearly 5 years later, these Dunks are highly sought after selling for well over $400 in new condition. The new line of clothing features Haze distinctive style branded on Nike's quality T-Shirts, all in a few colour options. Check out the pics below. All T-Shirts are available instore and online now at Fat Buddha Store, alongside our great selection of Nike clothing and Foot...
