The good folks over at NPR have just released on us a first listen to one of the most interesting musical collaborations of the year, the new album 'Wise Up Ghost' from Elvis Costello and The Roots! After a meeting with hip hop's most exciting live band as a guest on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon', Elvis Costello began recording with The Roots in a series of experimental sessions which eventually spanned a year. The sound of the album has already drawn comparisons to the soulful and funky sounds of early Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes but with added hip hop basslines and the literary brilliance of Mr Costello weaving itself amongst the cinematic sounds. Collaborations of this nature often force the very best out of musicians and songwriters, with both coming from very different musical backgrounds and attempting to create a cohesive collaborative project, in this case it works beautifully! If you're a fan of streetwear, there is every chance you may have heard the name Hanni El Khatib before. The San Francisco based singer/songwriter grew up with an avid love for skating as well as music, eventually snagging himself a job as Creative Director for Huf whilst in the early stages of his music career. Since leaving Huf behind, Hanni has been signed to Innovative Leisure, an imprint label of Stones Throw Records, and released his debut album 'Will The Guns Come Out' in late 2011. He has toured the US extensively with performances at South by Southwest and Bonnaroo, as well as opening for Florence and The Machine on their US tour, and his music has been featured in TV commercials for Nike, Nissan and the 2013 Audi Superbowl ad. Legendary alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. have influenced many of the greatest bands that emerged in the 90's and 00's such as Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Kyuss, but lets not forget that Dinosaur Jr. are so influential because they make great music! Formed in the mid-80's amongst the DIY hardcore punk movement of the era, a movement which founding Dinosaur Jr. members J.Mascis and Lou Marlow had very much been a part of in their punk band Deep Wound which split in 1984, Mascis and Marlow took their punk sensibilities but applied them to an altogether more melodic and mellower sound. The duo, joined by drummer Emmet 'Murph' Murphy, have since went on to experience many trials and tribulations over the years as Dinosaur Jr., a history that has seen 10 albums, a breakthrough into the UK charts in the early 90's, seen both Emmet Murphy and Lou Marlow leave the band and reunite, seen J.Mascis release critically acclaimed solo material and some ch...

New group Haim have been making a lot of waves in the music industry as of late. The trio of sisters from California - Este, Danielle and Alana Haim - have been quietly playing and recording music together since 2006, but it wasn't until 2012 that they decided to release anything. The three sisters are all incredibly musical, all proficient in multiple instruments and all had experience in bands prior to their coming together to form Haim and are now slated as one of the ones to watch in 2013. Haim had played a handful of shows supporting artists such as Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros and The Henry Clay People and then went on to release their first EP entitled 'Forever', a release which saw the music press go crazy for their unique r&b meets folk sound. We're nothing if not diverse here at Fat Buddha store, and we like you a little taste of our diversity through our Music Monday feature. This week we're presenting a much more sombre singing talent, something to help ease you into the New Year and get you over the hangover and potential heartbreak of the Xmas and New Year festivities. Keaton Henson, a singer-songwriter from London has gained something of a cult following through a series of bedroom recordings bearing his heart and soul. Keaton is a rare breed, he very much favours solitude and rarely performs live. In interviews, performances and videos he shys away from any and all publicity and seems uncomfortable with the spotlight, which is a crying shame given his considerable talent. Its that time of the week again, a chance to re-cap about the weekend, unwind and appreciate this Sundays Hottie of the week. This week we have opted to go for Katrina Bowden, best known for her role as the rather ditzy Carrie on 30 Rock. She began her major career in 2006 after recieving a role on ABC's "One Life To Live".
