It's a Munny old World

Image
We get lots of people in the shop asking about customising Munny's , what they can/can't use, what gives the best finish etc. The simple answer is that anything goes! The first port of call should be the Kidrobot forums, a friendly and helpful bunch who should be able to help you with pretty much any query you have, they are also happy to give feedback (mostly positive) if you post pics of your own custom munnys. For inspiration, you can check google images , or trawl through the Kidrobot Flickr pool and be awestruck with the awesomeness of the work! The Galleries on the forum are not bad too, best thing to do is check out people's websites (links can be found at the bottom of their forum posts), here you will find that one hundred hours of work is not uncommon for a top notch custom job. Here's a few of my favourites... For a clean finish, spray paint is good, but takes the patience of a saint not to touch it before it's completely dry, sand (using fin...

Blind-boxed toys your thing? Let's get ripping!!

Image
Last week I did a post about one of my favourite UK design teams (Peskimo) and in the week since then a couple of other UK designers have been releasing information of their upcoming releases so I thought I'd give you all a little heads up to make sure you don't miss out on them. The artists in question are Jon Burgerman and the ever tasty team TADO. Most UK toy/urban vinyl collectors have been waiting for this for a long time, they had a little treat when the 8" Dunnys were released a couple of months ago but the blind-boxed mini figure series is arguably the most popular format in collectible art toys and BOTH of these releases are indeed blind-boxed!! They will be out out by Kid robot so they should be in the shop for ordering (I think it's the month after the release date that the UK orders come in). First up we have the Cannibal Funfair minis from TADO released on the 28th of August. Here is the official blurb: "British illustration tandem, TADO, morphs the...

Bamboozoo Mini Series Blindbox

Image
So cute, they're terrifying. BambooZoo is filled with scary drooly beasties and serene furry things - weird horned creatures and critters that scream for attention - and they all want to be your friends! Brought to life by British artists, Peskimo (David + Jodie), BambooZoo is an ultra-cute collection of 3-inch vinyl monsters, many with articulated grabby parts and friends like bunnies, blobs or toast! The blindbox menagerie is habitat for 16 figures including 2 mystery species lurking somewhere around the bend... a sticker in each box proves you've seen the safari! These cute lil figures retail for only £5.50 and yoiull need ot shell out some cash to buy all of them. Great for customising and great for fun-sake.

East3 Spraycan Mugsy

Image
Throw it up with Mugsy, Hawaiian-based aerosol artist, East3's, premier vinyl for Kidrobot. This 8-inch figure rocks a removable visor, 3 spray cans, 2 markers and articulated arms for those hard-to-reach brick walls. To be fair, cant really figure out why i ordered this piece, think i was pished oot ma nut at the time, but hey ho, some-one will like it im sure. Selling for £28, its does seem cheap.

Fatcap Series 2

Image
Fatcap Series 2 has now dropped in store, cute lil blighters and the freaks at Kid Robot have down the unthinkable, they have made Series 2 better than Series 1. FatCaps are back with 17 new rattling personalities plus two uber-rare chases. Masterminded by Bubble Fetishist, Tilt, Argentine art troop DOMA, graffiti writer Sket One, and a team of other graf stars, these 3-inchers guard their work with dangerous accessories including machine guns, bull whips and batons. Also featured in this series: Andre Charles, Dalek, Flying Fortress, Lady Pink, Lastplak, MAD, Mr. Shane Jessup, Nathalie Oswald, Phetus, PON, Quisp, Reach, SHOK-1, Tizieu, TOOFLY, and ZETA. £5 each, is that all i hear you say, yes only £5, you'll need to shell out a fair few bob to get the whole series, are these great, yes they bloody well are.

Zombie Dunny

Image
Argentinean illustrator, Patricio Oliver, brings us a ghoul of a Dunny. Zombie Pet is kinda cute, if it wasn't for all the flesh eating. This GID, undead predator is made of translucent, blue vinyl and printed with glow-in-the-dark bones, for a distinctly ghoulish (but adorable) look. How much is that zombie in the window? Available now online at http://www.fatbuddhastore.com/ or come instore and hand over £30

Well, Thursday gone and we sold out of the Pink 8" dunny, only 1 of the Black one left, and its sitting by itself looking lonesome.
