It's getting to that time of year we call summer when the clouds disappear, the rain is gone and there is nothing but blue skies, shining sun and hot hot heat. Sadly for us here in Scotland this is not usually the case for us. We may get a couple of weeks of sun throughout the following months but traditionally our summers are not as hot as we would like them to be. Luckily summer is not all about the weather it is also the time of music festivals, time off work and of course summer blockbusters. When you are expecting some good summer weather and you end up with the rain there is nothing better than getting away from it all and enjoying a massive Hollywood blockbuster. I have been seriously geeking out recently by gaming far too much and by watching way too many movies. So to help you guys out, here is a wee review blog! Movies first, what have I seen recently? Tomorrow When The War Begins It has been getting great reviews and apparently it's one of the biggest movie from Australia ever... Well, it is! However, what other big Australian movies are out there to make hat such a good thing? It starts of great. With a good mix of characters and a bit of action, full of promise. Then when the film is about to start, it ends. It was like watching a intro to a war movie that has never been finished. If there is a sequel ever made, it will probably be good but sadly this is like an episode of home and away with a few guns and explosions. Suckerpunch Suckerpunch is a weird one. The staff here at Fat Buddha store all love a good movie. I am no exception. Last night I went alone to see Season of the Witch starring Nicholas Cage and Ron Pearlman... I wasn't expecting much having been dragged along and found myself quickly perking up in my seat at the excellent opening. I even jumped a little... It then got a little slow again until they set off to take the Witch to her doom and both the voyage and final scenes were quite excellent. I very much recommend this to anyone into a good, mindless action/horror. Few jumps and surprises, everyone was well cast and it was just enjoyable without trying to ram anything down your throat. Other movies we saw trailers for... Suckerpunch ... This has hot girls, big guns, robots and swords... What more really needs said? The Green Hornet 3D ... At Fat Buddha we all love the movies, who doesn't really? I just got my hands on one of those unlimited cards and have been making good use of it so I wanted to let you know of a few good films to see and to look out for! Out now is the utterly terrifying Paranormal Activity 2 and the stupid but hilarious Jackass 3D... I went to see Paranormal Activity 2 at the midnight showing on Halloween and I can safely say it is the scariest movie I have ever seen. I am sure there will be a few people who moan about it being filmed on security cameras and thats what makes it scary! I dare anyone not to jump at least once during the film... I jumped so hard at one bit I made a 'ooOOAAaaaww' sort of face! People walked out, my girlfriend looked as though she was going to be sick and didn't sleep at all... Excellent! Jackass is what it is and if you don't like it, seeing it in 3D won't make you like it more. However, if you DO like it, you are going to love the 3D mad...

High Fidelity is one of those movies that i have watched time after time, and every time i watch it i enjoy the same amount that i enjoyed it the first time.  There is something that appeals to me with the main character Rob Gordon, the frailty of man or something bollocksy like that, the two other characters Barry (Jack Black, when he was good) & Dick (Todd Louiso) work really well together. Having read the very good Nick Hornby novel of the same name I looked forward to "High Fidelity" quite a bit, but I never expected it to be as good as it is. This is easily one of the best comedies of all time for its laughs alone - but what separates it from other comedies (particularly new-age ones) is that it's a very poignant multi-layered tale that focuses, primarily, on males - and why we are as we are. Sunday night and the TV was up to its usual standard, had a browse through some DVD's i haven't seen in a while and came across this classic, i remembered how beautiful Isabelle Adjani was, it has been a few years since i seen this film, and it did not disappoint, as good as i remembered. So if you are looking for a good French subtitled film, watch La Reine Margot. Alexandre Dumas should certainly be satisfied with this superb adaptation of his classic. The setting is excellent and it gives a wonderful image of 16th century France. Naturally the highlight of the movie is the re-enactment of the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. The horrendous scenes of the murders in all their crudity are terrific. The actors did a wonderful job here. Isabelle Adjani is, as usual, terrific.
