Music Monday - Phony Ppl
Music Monday this week comes to you by way of the good city of Brooklyn and the 9-piece eclectic hip hop live band, Phony Ppl.
The group describe themsleves as a rap crew, songwriting/production team, a live band and just a group of friends who love to make music and this dynamic is obvious when you see them interact with each other or perform on stage.
Consisting of nine members, with Dyme-a-Duzin and PJ handling the vocals along with Elbee Thrie who also plays keys alongside Aja Grant. Guitar is helmed by both Elijah Rawk and Ian Bakerman with Temi O on the horns and Matthew Byas on drums.
You would think that with this many members, their style and sound would be all over the place and to an extent, you'd be right, but you can tell they're strongest influences come from those more melodic and abstract hip hop groups of old such as Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde with a nod to The Roots through their live instrumentation.
Having just dropped their latest EP, 'nothinG special' and the video for their first single, 'Statues'. this group are gonna be the ones to watch in 2013, check out 'Statues' below and if you like what you hear, head on over to their website and grab a copy of their EP!
