Home - Urban Art Project Glasgow

Image
One of our customers for art supplies here at Fat Buddha Store , Peter Drew has made this great short video showcasing an ongoing project he has been doing in Glasgow. Before Peter left Adelaide he made a collection of portrait photographs of his friends and family. When he arrived in Glasgow he started drawing their portraits and installing the drawings, together with the photos, on the street. he recorded people’s reactions to the project and began to make portraits of the people who reacted. In this sense the project has grown in the same way that our feeling of ‘home’ grows around our sense of community. 'Home’ is an ongoing project that Peter aim's to continue by photographing and drawing people wherever he goes. Each portrait is a small memorial to the people in his life and a means to connect with the place where he is living. You can check out the video below, and lots more from our art and graphics department here . HOME - urba...

Music Monday - Dinosaur Jr.!

Image
Legendary alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. have influenced many of the greatest bands that emerged in the 90's and 00's such as Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Kyuss, but lets not forget that Dinosaur Jr. are so influential because they make great music! Formed in the mid-80's amongst the DIY hardcore punk movement of the era, a movement which founding Dinosaur Jr. members J.Mascis and Lou Marlow had very much been a part of in their punk band Deep Wound which split in 1984, Mascis and Marlow took their punk sensibilities but applied them to an altogether more melodic and mellower sound. The duo, joined by drummer Emmet 'Murph' Murphy, have since went on to experience many trials and tribulations over the years as Dinosaur Jr., a history that has seen 10 albums, a breakthrough into the UK charts in the early 90's, seen both Emmet Murphy and Lou Marlow leave the band and reunite, seen J.Mascis release critically acclaimed solo material and some ch...

January Jones, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has been acting since 1999 with supporting roles in films such as Anger Management, Love Actually, American Wedding and most recently playing the character of Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class. Music Monday - Macklemore!

Image
Seattle rapper Macklemore has been getting some major attention from the world recently with his hit singles 'Same Love' and 'Thrift Shop' which have been lurking about the top of the iTunes charts for a couple of months now. Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, grew up in Seattle, Washington with dreams of reaching the youth through music and thus pursued a career in music. Citing Digital Underground as his earliest influence, he moved in the direction of hip hop as his music of choice and began listening to a lot of east coast hip hop, known for its hardened lyricists such as Nas and Talib Kweli. He released his first full length album in 2005, titled 'The Language of My World' but then went on a lengthy hiatus until September 2009 when he released 'The Unplanned Mixtape'. The reason for this he openly states was that he developed a problem with substance abuse, most notably with the use of Oxycontin, a struggle which he later wen...

Hottie of The Week - Selena Gomez!

Image
This weeks hottie is the incredibly hot Selena Gomez, who with this weeks release of the trailer for her newest movie 'Spring Breakers' is making the transition from Disney starlet to sexy young actress. Selena Gomez started out that old familiar way that many young American actors, actresses and singers have in the past, as part of Disney and its seemingly neverending supply of teeny-bopper stars. Since 'graduating' from the world of Disney, Selena has attempted to shake off her clean cut image with raunchy photo-shoots and the bikini-clad 'Spring Breakers' movie, with her sexy co-stars pictured above, which you can watch the trailer for below (James Franco's character is another highlight of the film). The one thing that annoys the guys here at Fat Buddha is her choice of guys, Justin Bieber?!? C'mon, seriously?!? But seemingly they've split up, so guys all over the world can rejoice in the knowledge that she may have came to ...
