Partying in Glasgow at XMAS!

Image
It is the festive season and that means one thing party time!  Although I'm not really all that fussed about Christmas in general, I must say it is a great time for partying especially if you are lucky enough to be in Glasgow!  Here are the two events I'm most excited about getting merry at this Christmas - Let Your Elf Go at the Sub Club - this yearly party at the Sub Club on Jamaica Street is not to be missed and is by far one of the most fun nights out of the year.  Featuring a an array of Glasgow's finest DJ talent such as Sensu, Pro Vinylst Karim, Boom Monk Ben and many more.  Its on Thursday 22nd at Sub Club and its free so head on there after joining us for drinks at our XMAS party . Hogmanay Threesome with Melting Pot, HIGHLIFE and Divine - No better way to welcome in the New Year than with three of Glasgow's finest club nights coming together to create something really special at the Admiral Bar.  You can vibe out...

Music Videos

Image
I've been watching a lot of music videos lately to supplement my daily dose of house music. I find that music videos can be a real mixed bag, with some being absolutely outstanding, and others making me think "Who made this, and why?!". Here are two videos I've seen recently that have really struck a cord with me, standing out miles above the rest for their quality and.. umm.. you'll see. The first one is a definite winner, from Swedish a-tonal electronica masters Minilogue, directed by Kristofer Ström; Minilogue - Animals from ljudbilden on Vimeo . This next one comes from the Elfen androgynous narcissist known as Chris Dane Owens. Directed by Robert Short, this one leaves me speechless, wondering WTF they were thinking.. Of course I couldn't make this post without referencing the Directors Label . This project, started by Michel Gondry (my personal favourite director), has blossomed into a series of 7 DVDs containing by far the best music videos ev...

Techno Tuesdays (or Wednesdays..?)

Image
A couple of months ago I came up with a brilliant idea with my good friend Weasal: Every Tuesday night, we get together at my place for dinner and play a couple of hours of dirty house and techno, then congratulate ourselves on a job well done. We managed a few Tuesdays for about the first month, but quickly got sidetracked by the amazing food laid out by my sidekick Possum. Our plan fell by the wayside and we hadn't met for our mid-week session for some time now. Last night saw the end to the DJ-shenanigans drought. I know its wasn't a Tuesday, but Wednesday is close enough right? We managed to squeeze in 4 hours of ripe techy-housey-nonsense with not only the wonderful Weasal, but also her partner in crime AnnaPants who is up from the south coast for the week. I'm waiting on some recording gear arriving this week, so the next Techno Tuesday could be landing on the Fat Buddha Blog soon. Stay tuned, cos I've got two weeks off at Christmas to do hee-haw apart ...

Another week, another belter

Phew… I feel like I’ve just caught my breath after last weekend’s mammoth Fiasco. It seemed like half the Glasgow house music scene turned up at the Brunswick to check DJ Mes out, and I can guarantee that nobody was disappointed. As always, pictures and videos are up on the Fiasco Facebook Group . Here is a sample of DJ Mes and the Fiasco crowd rockin’ out; But alas, another week, another belter. December is fast upon us and the end of the month means two things in Glasgow, both crucial to keeping the wheels of this fine city rolling; Payday and Pressure. This month sees Slam celebrating their 10th birthday, with the best Pressure lineup I can remember. The legendary Carl Craig and relative newcomer Boys Noize will be keeping it all things Techno, and with DJ Yoda giving it his usual one-of-a-kind audio-visual performance, who knows whats going to happen. Throw in Damian Lazarus and Radioslave too, and you know its gonna be one helluva good night. At this point I feel obligated to...

Fiasco presents DJ Mes

This is my first post on the Fat Buddha Blog, so I guess I better explain what I’m doing here before I get started. I’m going to be bringing you a view of the underground house music scene in Glasgow, as well as some other bits and pieces for you to check out online. You might even see a few mixes of my own, but either way I’ll try and bring you a few hours worth of free tunes to download each week to keep your iPods topped up. I’m gonna start off this month with a hot tip for this Friday: Fiasco at the Brunswick Hotel. Ah Fiasco, Fiasco.. from your humble beginnings in the deep of last winter, you have blossomed into probably the hottest new club night in the whole of Glasgow. After last month’s sell-out performance by the jaw-droppingly funky Inland Knights on their 10 Years of Drop Music tour, I was left wondering exactly how Fiasco residents ED-FM! and Frazer Devine could top the bill. This month, the Fiasco boys are bringing to Glasgow none other than west-coast legend and house...

Promo, Promo, Promo

Image
Gonna do some shameless PRing here. Some good friends of mine have a very promising exhibition on in Stereo in Renfield Lane on the 25th of November. Great new work from two new major Scottish artists Catherine Weir and Catrin Jeans with contributions from Portuguese and German artists. Promises to be some great video art, some interesting internet related things and good, old-school paintings. And if there's free wine, it's a great night. I'll drop some promo near the time, but it's gonna be a strong one. OneMoreTune is a belter of a techno/electro night in Blackfriar's basement. Some proper eye popping sound this Saturday with Elliot Castro, Foliage and residents Define Define. The door damage is well worth it and it always leaves a smile. And you can make the flyer into a paper owl. (Don't ask) NB-no 'ghost-rock' will be played at this event. Much to Big Al's chagrin. Incidently, on the OMT myspace, I found a picture of myself and my mate Sunny at...
