Music Videos

I've been watching a lot of music videos lately to supplement my daily dose of house music. I find that music videos can be a real mixed bag, with some being absolutely outstanding, and others making me think "Who made this, and why?!". Here are two videos I've seen recently that have really struck a cord with me, standing out miles above the rest for their quality and.. umm.. you'll see.

The first one is a definite winner, from Swedish a-tonal electronica masters Minilogue, directed by Kristofer Ström;

This next one comes from the Elfen androgynous narcissist known as Chris Dane Owens. Directed by Robert Short, this one leaves me speechless, wondering WTF they were thinking..

Of course I couldn't make this post without referencing the Directors Label. This project, started by Michel Gondry (my personal favourite director), has blossomed into a series of 7 DVDs containing by far the best music videos ever produced. I guarantee you'll recognise more than a handful of the videos included in the series, and you'll be able to find most of them on YouTube, but as a proud owner of the box set I'd highly recommend trying to pick these up in the post-holiday sales.

As for a tip for this weekend: its that time of the month again. The Fiasco XMas party is upon us, full details can be found at the Fiasco Events website. I've been looking forward to this Friday all month, as its been 4 or 5 months since Ed and Fraz have done a Fiasco night on their own and I expect they are both going to be in their element after the success of the first-class guest bookings they've had throughout the second half of 2008. Here is the skinny;
  • Event: Fiasco Xmas Special, with residents Ed-FM! and Frazer Devine
  • Where: Basura Blanca, Brunswick Hotel, Brunswick Street, Glasgow [Map]
  • When: Friday 19th December 2008, 10pm to 2am.
  • How Much: £6 on the door.

See you there,

Pedro
