Music Monday - Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean's is an exciting prospect in music right now, seen as the man who is regenrating r'n'B with his excellent and wholly original intimate music. His debut album Channel Orange was released earlier this month and earlier than originally planned due to high demand. The young star who has written songs for the likes of John Legend and Justin Beiber has seen his career sky rocket since he released his first free mixtape in 2010 which led collaborations with Jay Z and Kanye West and now his full length debut album titled Channel Orange.
His first mixtape release came in 2010 when he joined the creative music, art, rap collective (gang) Odd Future. Where he adopted their undergound approach to releasing music by giving out free downloadable mixtapes rather than the more original approach of releasing through a record company. This approach ignited his career.
For his debut album he opted for the more original approach of releasing through a label, it is clear he has shaken off his underground roots to step in to the mainstream as one of the most exciting artist in R'n'B. The album is a more accomplished piece of work that features blissed out melodies and intimate lyrics the highlight has got to be Pyramids an 8 min long beleter.
