Music Monday - Jurassic 5!

Pioneering hip hop group and legends in the game, Jurassic 5, hit Glasgow tonight for what is sure to be a not to be missed performance at the O2 Academy.

The group are currently on a reunion tour after officially disbanding in 2007, but reuniting earlier this year to play Coachella and Parklife Weekender.

Jurassic 5, consisting of MC's Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir and Mark 7even alongside DJ Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist, were formed in 1993, an amalgamation of two previous groups - Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee.

The first official release from the group was 'Jurassic 5 EP', a nine-track EP which included much of the material that would eventually find its home on their self-titled debut album. 'Jurassic 5' featured such classic tracks as 'Concrete Schoolyard' and 'Blacktop Beat' which earned them a deal with Interscope Records.

'Quality Control' was their first new release on Interscope and came out in 2000, their first album on a major label, which was closely followed by 'Power in Numbers' in 2002. The two albums are linked by a double bass sample which plays at the start of 'Power in Numbers' which is the same riff on the last track on 'Quality Control'.

'Feedback' was the fourth and final album from Jurassic 5 and was released as a quintet due to Cut Chemist's departure.

Much to everyone's pleasure, Jurassic 5 have reunited as the original line-up and are rocking stages once again!

If you're out and about in Glasgow tonight, check them out at the O2 Academy and then shoot along to Glasgow's famous Sub Club for an afterparty hosted by Akil from Jurassic 5, featuring DJ Bunty, Nasty P and DJ Prospect spinning some classic hip hop!
