Going Out: Highlife Turns 5!
Highlife's party and subsequent label was started by Auntie Flo and Andrew (Huntleys + Palmers), to focus on and bring international artists to Glasgow, including the likes of Rebolledo, Charanjit Singh, Matias Aguayo's Cómeme crew, Actress, Nicolas Jaar, JAMAL MOSS AKA HIEROGLYPHIC BEING, Awesome Tapes From Africa, Sam Shackleton, Romare, T.Williams, etc - many of whom for the first time.
This fruitful friendship has laid the foundations to what has now become known internationally as Auntie Flo, the Huntleys + Palmers label and it's Highlife offshoot, spawning a host of inspired crews from Amsterdam to Paris, Berlin to Montreal. It sees residents Auntie Flo, Esa and Andrew playing regularly on an international level at Europe's leading venues including fabriclondon, Kantine am Berghain /Panorama Bar Music, Razzmatazz, Le Sucre, Hinterhof Bar and as far away as Australia, Cuba, South Africa, Turkey and the USA. They've also appeared on the Boiler Room 4 times, played live from BBC Maida Vale Studios, and turned in mixes for Resident Advisor, Little White Earbuds, Fabric, TRUANTS, Dummy, Clash, not to mention holding down a monthly show on Rinse FM.
To celebrate all this, they're releasing a limited edition compilation USB which will feature ALL the Highlife releases (which have sold out on vinyl) + a live recording from a previous party and an exclusive Auntie Flo 'Highlife Hit's mix. This will be available on the night to the Highlife crew, before hitting selected shops.
