This Saturday night (Sat 16th Nov) legendary DJ and producer Daniele Baldelli takes control of the music in one of Glasgow's most intimate  and greatest clubs The Berkeley Suite for this rare special appearance. The self-titled “oldest DJ in Italy”, is the founding father of the Cosmic disco sound. His creative blend of disco, funk, jazz, synth pop, reggae, electronic music, and African and Brazilian records – often played slower or faster – introduced many club-goers to a new mix of rhythm and sound. Hailing from the town of Cattolica in Northern Italy, Daniele made his DJ debut at 17 at local clubs Tana and Tabu, before graduating to the seminal Baia Degli Angeli, a glamorous VIP club whose DJ booth was in a glass elevator. Glasgow's very own Koreless has teamed up with another pioneer of the London art scene Ghostpoet to produce a collaborative piece of work focusing on the question "What Moves You ?". Supported by Levi's throughout the project film director Alex Turvey joined these two seminal producers to document the creative process and provide the visual aspect of this musical endeavor. Barcelona resident John Talabot's 2010 track 'Sunshine' put him firmly on the DJ world map and he's been on the Subculture radar for a few years. His debut artist album 'fiN' on Permanent Vacation gained rave reviws last year, highlighting a shimmering balearic sensibility so this DJ set will no doubt bring some welcome sunshine to our Scottish summer, if not a permanent vacation. Daniel Avery (Phantasy) makes a welcome return to Glasgow's Berkeley Suite tonight (Fri 17th May) alongside Glasgow favourite and one half of Optimo JG Wilkes. Avery is unique among the current crop: a rising producer embraced by the same icons whose own work inspired him to seek that warm up slot playing ESG and Neu! records in Bournemouth all those years ago. Alkan in particular recognized Avery's passion for sounds originating away from the dancefloor, something that was instrumental in Avery signing for Phantasy, a collective Daniel now regards "very much as home." The critically acclaimed "Need Electric" and "Water Jump" EPs followed, showcasing a depth and progression alluded to in his earlier works for Throne Of Blood, Relish and Tigersushi. This weeks Music Monday is gifted musician, producer and DJ Nicolas Jaar! 23 year old Nicolas Jaar was born in New York in 1990, but spent much of his early childhood in his father's native country of Chile before moving back to New York. When Jaar was 14, he heard an album by electronic music legend and fellow Chilean, Ricardo Villalobos, and he was completely taken by the sound and feelings that the music evoked. So much so that he decided to try his hand at making music of his own. Fast forward to January 2011 and the release of Jaar's first album 'Space is Only Noise' which garnered massive critical acclaim, ranking as the best album of the year by Resident Advisor and Mixmag, receiving an 8.4 score from Pitchfork and 4 stars from The Guardian. Today is Record Store Day, and what a great day it is. The day first came into being in 2007 when over 700 independent stores in the USA came together to celebrate their unique culture. The UK followed suit and 2013 will see the sixth celebration of the UK's unique independent sector. This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, meet & greets with artists, DJ's, in store quizzes and many other events. Tonight (Friday 19th April) Thomas Franzmann aka Zip, co-founder of the label Perlon, is more than familiar with what make dance floors around the world work. In 1997 he founded the Perlon label with Marcus Nikolai and has since released seminal records by friends and contemporaries Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Akufen, Baby Ford, Ark, Cassie and A Guy Called Gerald to name but a few. Great to have Glasgow's favourite institution of hedonistic music Optimo making their appearance underground at the world famous Sub Club on Jamaica St tonight (Friday April 5th). Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last few years, you must have seen the duo's popularity grow, their touring schedule get bigger, and their own releases and remixes become more frequent, meaning these guys have been working hard. For anyone out their who doesn't happen to know, Optimo was a weekly Sunday-night club based in Glasgow, Scotland at the Sub Club on Jamaica Street, as well as a collective moniker for the night's resident DJ duo. UK based Slovenian Nightwave , formerly known as 8Bitch is someone that many of you may already know by now and if you don't you are sure to find out this year. A close friend of the Glasgow based Lucky Me collective, Nightwave makes electronic music, DJ's and is also a vocalist (she recently collaborated with her boyfriend Rustie on his album track Surf). A real multi talented individual she has also done some acting in her time including parts in UK Police drama The Bill. She is also a Judo champion! With a few releases under her belt on the likes of labels such as  Svetlana Industries and Unknown to the Unknown which has helped put her on the radar in the dance music scene.
