Music Monday - Nicolas Jaar!
This weeks Music Monday is gifted musician, producer and DJ Nicolas Jaar!
23 year old Nicolas Jaar was born in New York in 1990, but spent much of his early childhood in his father's native country of Chile before moving back to New York.
When Jaar was 14, he heard an album by electronic music legend and fellow Chilean, Ricardo Villalobos, and he was completely taken by the sound and feelings that the music evoked. So much so that he decided to try his hand at making music of his own.
Fast forward to January 2011 and the release of Jaar's first album 'Space is Only Noise' which garnered massive critical acclaim, ranking as the best album of the year by Resident Advisor and Mixmag, receiving an 8.4 score from Pitchfork and 4 stars from The Guardian.
Nicolas Jaar describes his music as 'Blue Wave' drawing inspiration from a host of influences including minimal techno, Ethiopian jazz and experimental hip hop to create a truly unique, ruminative and emotional sound.
Making a name for himself making remixes for a host of artists including the likes of Grizzly Bear and Brian Eno, Jaar is fast becoming an in demand DJ, evidenced by his 2012 Radio 1 Essential Mix voted as Mix of the Year and by his great set at the Red Bull Music Academy Boiler Room which you can watch below.
