Going Out - Melting Pot With Greg Wilson & Big Break Records

Fresh from another action packed summer of festival frolics where Greg played: Bestival, Camp Bestival and The Garden Festival in Croatia to name a few, plus a US tour, he's been continuing to produce with some notable remixes for the likes of The xx, Psychemagik and Crazy P over the last year or two. His Soundcloud account has a feast of mixes to download and has recently gone over the 1 million plays!

Greg is unashamedly one of Melting Pots favourite guests and one of ours to here at Fat Buddha Store and one that they all very much look forward to putting on. Melting Pot were one of the first clubs to have Greg play when he came out of his self imposed exile in December 2003. He had retired from DJing in 1983 whilst resident at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda, but not before he had placed his hallmark on the black music scene in the North of England, at clubs like Legend in Manchester and Wigan Pier, bringing the sounds of New York electro boogie to the UK.

Greg continues to go from strength to strength, with worldwide DJ dates from USA to Japan, Australia, Brazil, all over Europe and the summer festival circuit. His BBC Essential Mix from 2009 is already thought of as one of the best in the 20 year old series - a total classic! In between that, his production work is still prodigious with various remixes and edits finding their way out on a plethora of labels, including his own Ruff Edits label.

We will be treated to another electro, boogie, funk workout by the master himself, along with his trusty Revox reel to reel machine.

Glasgow based Big Break Records have put down a marker for how a reissue label should operate. Taking the best albums from disco, funk and soul; lovingly remastering them, and putting together some wonderful sleeve notes. They are fast approaching their 200th release in little more than 3 years including a whole host of albums from the seminal Salsoul Records catalogue. You couldn't find a label that was a more perfect fit for Melting Pot than BBR.

BBR DJs Wayne Dickson and Roddie Gibb are bound to play a selection from their back catalogue, including the likes of: Donna McGhee, Double Exposure, Salsoul Orchestra, First Choice, Melba Moore, Pointer Sisters, Taste of Honey, Cerrone, Tom Moulton, Odyssey, Heatwave, Gladys Knight, Evelyn Champagne King, Change, Brooklyn Dreams, and many more, phew!
