Music Monday - Run The Jewels!

This week saw the release of a highly anticipated album from Run The Jewels, the unique pairing of underground hip hop legend EL-P and Dungeon Family MC Killer Mike.

After collaborating together on "R.A.P. Music", Killer Mikes' critically acclaimed last album which was produced in its entirety by EL-P, the duo release this new project which sees them sharing the MC-ing duties.

A native of Brooklyn, EL-P is considered an underground legend by the hip hop community, cutting his teeth as one of the founding members of Company Flow alongside Mr Len and Bigg Jus, releasing the instant classic "Funcrusher Plus" on Rawkus Records in 1997.

EL-P then went on to form his own record label Definitive Jux after the disbanding of Company Flow in the early 2000's. Releases such as Cannibal Ox's "Cold Vein" (which was entirely produced by EL-P) , Aesop Rock's "Labor Days" and El-P's first solo album "Fantastic Damage" lead Def Jux to great success as an independent record label.

Killer Mike first came to prominence when he was featured on the track "Snappin' and Trappin'" from Outkast's 2000 album Stankonia and again when he was featured on their 2001 single "The Whole World". He released his debut album in 2003, titled "Monster", which featured the singles "Akshon (Yeah!)" and "A.D.I.D.A.S".

2012 was a big year for both artists, EL-P was set to release his long awaited fourth studio album "Cancer 4 Cure" after a 5 year hiatus whilst Killer Mike was to release his sixth studio album "R.A.P. Music" which had been slated to be one of the albums of the year, neither album dissapointed!

Run The Jewels, released on Fools Gold Records for free, see's the pair pick up where they left off on "R.A.P. Music" with beats that hit hard and classic rhymes from both EL-P and Killer Mike that is sure to make this release a future classic.
