Field Notes - Bringing back the art of note taking

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois via Portland, Oregon, the Field Notes brand are "Inspired by the vanishing sub genre of agricultural memo books, ornate ledgers and the simple, unassuming beauty of a well-crafted grocery list" according to their online mantra. While we here at Fat Buddha would seldom comment on the diminishing culture of note taking, we do know everything about these little treasures are a treat for the senses. From the look of the elegant gilded edges of the 'Ambition' collection, to the feel of the genuine American Cherry Wood veneered covers crafted for the 'Cherry Wood' pack, Field Notes exhibits both classic style and practical substance in equal measures in their products with aplomb, all within the boundaries of a 48 page memo book.

The 'Cherry Wood' pack (as shown above) contains 3 memo books measuring in at 3.5" x 5.5", each coated in a thin veneer of real American Cherry Wood which allows unique characteristics to occur throughout each book including subtle differences in tone and grain. Field Notes also assure sustainability for the environmentally aware.

Moving away from their standard 3.5" x 5.5" memo books, the 'Arts & Sciences' double pack carries itself as more of a note book due to it's off-kilter 4 3/4" x 7 1/2" dimensions. Inspired by historic heavyweights such as Da Vinci, Einstein and Planck, the 'Arts & Sciences' collection features a more traditional approach with alternating blank and ruled pages for 'Arts' and plain and graph gridded pages for 'Sciences' as well as a flurry of useful information such as the periodic table and a ruled back page.

The 'Unexposed' collection contains a selection of three brightly coloured books ranging from a bubblegum pink to a near neon green. The main attraction of the pack is not knowing which series of colours you are going to receive from a possibility of 20 different combinations. While some may fear the unknown, others will welcome a random selection of vibrant colours to brighten up their pockets.

For those who have an aversion towards surprises, the 'Mixed Three-Pack' or 'Plain Paper' collection will appeal due to their stripped back, no-nonsense design. The mixed pack contains graph, ruled and plain papered books and returns to the standard 3.5" x 5.5" dimensions.

Of course all of the above would be rendered redundant if we never had the appropriate tools but naturally Field Notes have catered for this with a pack of refillable click pens, complete with bold branding and pocket clip on each. For more info check out Fat Buddha Store and Field Notes.
